If you have tried to give your cat a bath, you might have faced at least once with an almost steel strong willed cat that simply says “no” to any futile attempts of a bad from your side.  After a long time struggling and being scratched, the bath is over and your cat simply says “thank you, I needed that” and waltzes his or her way down to your bed for a snooze.  All this while you loose pints of blood per second.

But how to make a cat like the bathing time?  Well, for starters you will need to bathe your cat yourself, it does not count if you take him or her to the vet parlour to get bathed, trimmed and dried.  It will be better for you to start with trusting exercises as young as you can possibly start bathing your kitten.

Of course, none of such exercises will take away the natural dislike of the cat to water, but it will soften him or her enough to allow you to bathe him or her with some sort of tranquillity.

Fill your tub or sink (wherever you will be bathing him or her) and turn off the faucet, gently, turn him or her over her tummy and with your hand supporting his or her back well, firmly and strong, gently move him or her back and forth alongside the surface of the water.  Just deep enough to tickle his or her back and shallow enough to leave his or her ears alone.

With your other hand, gently stroke his or her tummy and speak soothingly.  Do NOT let him or her “fall off” your hand, this will spoil the entire exercise and each scratch will be deserved.

When washing your kittens fur, always support his or her tummy and handle him or her softly and with care.  The way you conduct yourself in these first bath experiences will be what marks the way your cat will interact with bath and you all through his or her life.
