Cats and Fleas

Fleas can be pesky little bugs that can irritate a cat, and create much havoc in one’s home. Fleas can rapidly multiply, and can even lead to sickness in cats, as well as humans if there is an overabundance of them. Taking control to kill the fleas is important to both cats and residents in the household.

Since fleas are constantly jumping great distances, many people will find with their cats that they may be infested with fleas. The best way to prevent fleas from occurring on a cat is to make sure that their coats are kept clean and checked regularly for the bugs. The fleas will often lie in warm areas on the cat, such as the belly or in their ears. There are flea killer drops that can be placed directly to a cat’s coat that will ward off any fleas in the future.

If the fleas have been found to be a great nuisance, then a flea bath may be necessary. This is a way to immerse the cat completely in flea shampoo, and then wash out the shampoo from the cat’s fur. This will often kill the fleas by suffocating them. Regular check ups on the cat’s fur are needed to control the fleas that can crawl on the cats. Should the fleas become too bad for the cat, then the cat should be taken to a veterinarian. This is important, as fleas carry many diseases, which can greatly hurt the feline.
