Choosing a Veterinarian for Your Kitty
For many people, our furry feline friends are like our children, and as such we want to make sure that we have the best care possible for them in the event of an emergency. Not every veterinarian is equipped to handle cats, and even if they say they care for cats that doesn’t mean they are the most knowledgeable vet around. When selecting your cat’s veterinarian there are a few things that you can keep in mind that will helpĀ ensure the vet you pick is the best vet for your cat.
It is important to consider location when you select a veterinarian for your cat. It may seem like the opposite because you may be willing to travel far for the best vet in your state, but if an emergency occurs there is no kitty ambulance. In the event of an emergency you want to make sure that you can get to a veterinarian that is familiar with your cat as quickly as possible. Often with animals when they are injured or sick, time is of the essence and you don’t want to have to waste time giving a medical history or getting a new veterinarian to see your cat.
Look for a veterinarian that deals primarily with cats. Cats are a popular household pet and because of that many animal hospitals are solely devoted to caring for them. If there is a cat hospital close to your home it is the ideal place to seek care for your cat.
When you narrow down your choices of veterinarians make sure that all of these veterinarians have a good reputation with local governing boards and the community by doing a little investigating. Ask around and do some research online.
