Giving a cat a bath

Usually you won’t need to give your cat a bath, because cats keep themselves very clean without any help from us.  But there may be times that you will need to give a cat a bath, especially when your cat has fleas, so this will help you to make it as stressfree for the two of you.

a. Approach the cat with a calm soothing manner. This will help you to both remain calm.

b. Think about trimming her nails before you bathe her to reduce your chances of getting scratched.

c.  Take your cat into the bathroom and shut the door, keeping it shut until its over.

d.  Fill the tub with tepid water, just enough to cover her paws.

e.  Gently put her into the tub.

f.  Allow her to explore, but if she tries to escape hold the back of her neck.

g.  Before you start the bath, put something on her eyes like olive or baby oil, or an ointment that you can get from the vet.  This will help keep her eyes from being irritated.

h.  Pour water from a plastic cup over your cat until her fur is completely wet. Don’t get water in her eyes.

I.  Gently apply a regular or a flea cat shampoo and rub it into her fur.  Don’t get any in her eyes.

j.   Rinse her using the cup or the faucet.

k.  Gently rub or pat your cat dry using a towel.

l.   Make certain to praise your cat for doing so well and give her a treat.
