Cats often require that you let them out to roam at their own heart’s content.  While this might be something that has been traditionally made for decades now, it is not advisable in terms of the proper conduct of a responsible cat owner.  Outside in the real world your cat will meet dog owners and bird enthusiasts that are not particularly pleased to see even a neighbour’s cat scare their birds away or hunt them out just for the fun of it.

As a result, sudden and “unexplainable” cat deaths are a constant high toll of neighbourhoods that have residents who love cats.  Naturally, a cat will do cat things; still, it is the responsibility of the owner to make sure that his or her cats will not roam around the neighbourhood or the block terrorizing birds and driving dogs out of their minds.

The best way to do this is to take your cat for a walk, on a leash.  Walking out with your cat will allow you to introduce him or her to surrounding neighbours, if, by any sad event of life, it escapes, he or she will be easily recognizable.  Walking is also a great exercise that will keep your cat fit and trim; but doing so in a leash will prevent your cat from venturing into MR X’s bird fountain.

At night, it is important that you keep your cat indoors; the best way to approach this is to have him or her spayed or neutered. Doing so, of course will prevent you from having a litter parented by your cat; but you can have them spayed or neutered after the first litter has arrived.  Then will be the right time.

Nonetheless, consider that several individuals compose a litter and that you might not be able to keep every single one of them; therefore, you might have to seek proper and adequate homes for your kittens.
