Kitten Care
It is important that kittens be held the same way everyday. This way, they feel secure with you and confident that you won’t drop them down. So make it a point to hold them the same way everyday. Once you win over the confidence of the cat, it will be easy to train and control.
Just as the house has to be made child proof, it is also important that the house also be made kitten proof for the kitten. The same precautions have to be taken as for a child; the medications have to be kept out of the kittens’ reach, poisons have to be secured and all other medicines have to be kept away. Make sure that you secure all your electrical and computer cords of your house so that the kitten does not get tempted to play with them.
In addition to all this, it is better for you to eliminate all temptations that may make the kitten misbehave in your house. Avoid keeping baskets of fluffy feathers or decorative glasses within its view as it may just fiddle with it and destroy it! Just like for children, it is better to keep all these delicate knick-knacks away for a few months till the kitten adjusts to the rules of the house!
It is you who will play the part of the mummy to the kitten in the first three weeks of the kitten’s life. So you will also have to clean it like its mother. The best thing for cleaning the kitten is good textured wash cloth-like terrycloth. This is because it stimulates the mother’s tongue. Wet the cloth with warm water and wash the kitten’s face by moving across the eyes and nose area. Then wash the genital area to stimulate the working of the bladder. In the following weeks, you can then teach the kitten to clean itself after bowel movement.
