Cat Facts

Cats are good listeners, they can hear frequencies spanning 10.5 octaves and that is quite higher than the dogs. If you need to find out whether your cat is deaf or not just know that white cats especially the ones with blue eyes are prone to deafness. These cats lose their capability to hear just a few days after they are born as the white gene causes their inner ear voice and sound receptor cells to die.

Discharge or a bad smell along with scratching and rubbing of ears and a change in the ear shape are possible signs, which indicate ear problems.

A shiny coat is one of the best signs that show your cat is in good health. Excessive shedding may be a sign of poor nutrition and to avoid such a problem you may brush your cat to help decrease the shedding and the hairballs.

You can also try and provide a stimulating environment with a variety of toys, which will help out with your cat’s curiosity. Do you have any idea why your cat needs to scratch? Because that is one of their most powerful instincts; Mother Nature has decided for your cat to do it because that way it can show that it is a happy and healthy feline. Scratching also gives a workout to the muscles and helps stretching of muscles. There are special glands in your cat’s paw pads, which release a scent during the scratching and that makes the cat feel at home and help it feel secured.

Cats don’t exactly scratch because they are trying to sharpen their claws. But what exactly happens is that the outer sheath that covers each nail is shedding off to reveal a new, sharp claw underneath. This is the way a cat’s nails grow and renew them. Scratching with the front claws on a rough object helps this process along. Cats use their teeth to bite and pull off the old claw sheaths on their back paws.
