Cats and toys

Why is it that we can buy our cats all the toys in the world, and, like small children, they are content to play with the most mundane things? For example, there are plenty of cats who love to chase the caps off of soda bottles, and some of them even bring them back to their owners like a dog retrieves a ball. And the funny thing is that no matter how many caps there are already on the floor, they want the one that you just removed from your bottle of soda.

And then there is the invisible thing that only they can see.  You swear there is nothing there, but whatever isn’t there, they are chasing it.  Must be something only they can see – or maybe they see dead people? Hmm…

Of course then there are cats who love pieces of strings.  It doesn’t matter what color it is, how long it is, or if it’s attached to something that you are currently wearing, holding, using, eating…they want to play with it.

So even though you can spend hundreds of dollars on toys for your cat, keep your money in your wallet and give them a soda bottle cap or a piece of string to play with.  They won’t know the difference, but you will by saving money.  You don’t have to buy your cat toys. They are quite content to play with things that lay around the house – or even nothing at all.  Who’s to argue?
