Choosing a name for your cat
When you get a cat, you want to pick out a name that fits the cat and that you can live with. First you want to include the whole household in the decision. After all, everyone that lives in the house is going to be calling the cat, so they should have a say in what it’s named. If you are naming a kitten remember that kittens grow into cats, and what might seem cute now might seem undignified for an older cat.
Give your cat a name that reflects its personality, but don’t make it a really long name. You want something that you can say in a hurry, but something that you can also say with affection. Mostly cats respond to the tones in someone’s voice rather than specific words.
You also want to give a cat a name that is different from someone else’s name. You don’t want the animal to get confused, thinking you’re talking to her when you are talking to your wife. For example, don’t name the cat Tess if your name is Jess.
Finally, if you have gotten an older cat from a shelter and you don’t want to keep the name that they have given it, you can change it. Cats normally adapt to change and you can give your cat a name that you will both enjoy.
In conclusion, think about your cat and give it a name that will fit it and that is special for both of you.
