It is often stated that the difference between cats and dogs is that cats think they own their humans and dogs know their humans own them. Anyone who has owned a cat knows that their cat truly is not their possession or in any way under their command. Cats have minds of their own and they are smart enough to see the writing on the wall, and every reasonable sign spells out the fact that cats own us and not the other way around. So, just why do cats think they own us?

6. We feed them! In the wild, prey is presented like a gift to the master or leader of the pack. We put their food in a dish and often serve it to them on a placement. What more evidence could they need?

5. We scoop their poop and pee. They don’t clean up after us. Does that sound like something your boss would do?

4. They are home more than us, they never leave. So, we are more like visitors in their home.

3. We bring them gifts and give them treats. They don’t do any of the following. Does a king give gifts to his subjects?

2. We pet them, massage them and groom them like we are their personal servants. Day after day and night after night we lavishly shower them with praise and affection, even when they don’t ask for it.

1. They don’t obey us and we keep them around. They scratch things up, sleep wherever they please and even pee outside of the box and they still have a place to call home. If that is not a sign that they know they are in charge I don’t know what is!
